Today’s engine oils no longer have ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate) to protect your flat tappet (lifter) camshaft, used in all Volvo overhead valve engines (B20, B18, B16). This was mandated by the EPA in an effort to extend the life of catalytic converters used on newer cars. ZDDPlus™ restores the ZDDP levels in your engine oil to save your camshaft from premature wear. Simply poured in at every oil change, the addition of ZDDPlus™ (one 4 oz bottle per 4 – 5 quarts) is guaranteed to restore your oil’s capability to fully protect your engine as it was designed. We use it in all Volvo B20, B18 and B16 engines that we service as well as in our own vintage Volvos. ZDDPlus contains 42,700 ppm of
phosphorus and 57,300 ppm of zinc. When a 4 ounce bottle of ZDDPlus is
added to 5 quarts of motor oil, it is diluted 41:1 which contributes 1041 ppm of
phosphorus and 1397 ppm of zinc to whatever the oil may or may not already
contain.
GM's EOS contains 6210 ppm of phosphorus and 6820 ppm of zinc. When a 16 ounce
bottle of GM EOS is added to 5 quarts of motor oil, it is diluted 11:1 which
contributes 565 ppm of phosphorus and 620 ppm of zinc to whatever the oil may or
may not already contain.
Torco ZEP contains 6015 ppm of phosphorus and 6783 ppm of zinc. When a 12 ounce
bottle of Torco ZEP is added to 5 quarts of motor oil, it is diluted 14.3:1
which contributes 421 ppm of phosphorus and 474 ppm of zinc to whatever the oil
may or may not already contain.
ZDDPlus adds much more real ZDDP than any other product due to it's
extremely high concentration. Using ZDDPlus eliminates adding large
amounts of unwanted filler oil that less concentrated products contain.
